Instead of dreamy destination shots, this time we're embracing the funny side of travel. From your submitted photos of bizarre, evocative, and lost-in-translation signs, we selected 27 that range from retro neon lettering in Utah to a Mumbai warning to curb honking addition. See the slide show.

I enjoyed your pictures of signs. My favorite, of the special signs I have seen, was in a castle above Salzburg. They wanted visitors to "keep off the grass," but they didn't want to post a multitude of signs. They came up with one that worked very well: a caricature of an elephant looking back over his shoulder at the divots he had displaced.

My sister who passed away in November, absolutely loved unusual signs. She has album full of them. She would have loved these. I'm pretty sure she has the one at the tip of Argentina as she and her husband were there a couple of years ago. You can see some of her other photos at this site margiesdailyphoto.blogspot.com

When I started looking through these, I thought, "If I'd known about this, I'd have sent them the one I have from the gas station in Fredonia, AZ", when, lo and behold, there it is at number 14. I've even got a t-shirt from there- Judd Auto, Center of the Universe, Fredonia AZ on the front, Lotto, guns, ammo, beer on the back. Pretty damned cool.

12/7 In July 1963 I was on a nine country one month tour of Eueope. My favorite sign was the one in Amsterdam showing the picture of a bicycle with a slash across it - meaning no bike parking. The tour bus driver told us what it meant but there were about 300 bikes parked under the sign. Barbara Nemec

We saw a funny sign in Bangkok!
Most of the shops had signs in
several languages.
One such grocery store was labeled
"Grossery"....does that mean it is gross?? ;-)

Signs advising one to "LOOK LEFT" or "LOOK RIGHT" are common all over London and Dublin. These advisories are helpful not only to Americans and Europeans from the continent who are accustomed to traffic driving on the opposite side from that in England and Ireland, but also locals, as streets and their traffic patterns can be confusing for locals as well as tourists. Often three roads meet at a common intersection and it can be difficult to know which might be a one way street, with cars approaching, often around a curve in the road from an unexpected direction.
