Love the Fort Lauderdale airport...so well designed and easy to get in and out quickly. Denver for great restaurants and airport being so beautiful, but a little out of town.

Atlanta can get you everywhere, but the airport is way too big, storms delay and ground planes all the time and traffic in Atlanta is awful!! Hate flying in and out of ATL the passengers and employees are cranky!

Posted By Jennifer on November 6, 2010, 10:12 AM

Favorite airport: my home airport of Detroit Metro (I know, I'm biased!) Easy highway access, two spankin' new terminals, good restaurants & shopping, and lots of seating at the gates.

Least Favorite: JFK in New York City. TOO BIG, cranky employees across the board, precious little seating at the gates, crappy shopping...just an overall bad time. When I have to fly international again, I'm headed elsewhere!

Posted By Molly on November 6, 2010, 2:59 PM

Favorite: Charlotte, NC. You might think it would be too big to be nice, but not true! Great food options, free wi-fi, fairly cheap parking.

Least favorite: ATL anytime of the year. The people are so extremely rude to customers. I will avoid this airport at all costs.

Posted By Lauren on November 6, 2010, 7:06 PM

Favourite: Singapore Changi Airport. Lots of places to spend up a storm or relax. Clean, tidy, and you can even go for a swim on the roof. Plus the staff are friendly.

Least Favourite: Christchurch, New Zealand. Nothing there. Currently being redeveloped so there can be more nothing and more poorly designed. Parking is a nightmare and there is no help getting in or out. Customs and immigration staff are hit and miss when it comes to finding the kind and welcoming ones.
Only plus is the Police staff. Really helpful and not off-putting at all. Will point you in the right direction or help you themselves.

favorite airport: Phoenix: separate parking garages marked for each terminal; in general restaurants open early and available ;in modern Southwest terminal both sit down restaurants as well as carry on food available;interesting shops;helpful and polite shop staff; excellent airport personnel who direct and assist you to the correct line with politeness esp when the terminal is crowded with travelers and vacationers of all ages which is nearly every day. They also see to it that YOU get to your plane on time by frequently checking the lines. Very well organized and appropriate staff.

worst airport: Cleveland Hopkins. It appears to be staffed with gloomy and unhappy , rude personnel, who wish you would not be in their airport. It is dark and unattractive even tho recently remodeled Has a few decent sit down restaurants which are centrally located and therefore not in your gate area. At least one can get sticky buns in the Southwest gate area.

after i have taken a half hour to address your query, you have cancelled my comments by saying ..what..'they were too long?? You did not state a word number...and it was no longer than any one else. No wonder you only have 4 replys. Not happy.

Hate, hate, hate the Miami (FL) airport. Every experience has been bad. Immigration functions (or doesn't) worse than some less developed countries I've visited. It's hard to navigate, not a lot of information (and when it is given it is is in Spanish, not English), and poorly marked. Will do anything to avoid this one.

Minneapolis and Denver are nice.

The worst I've ever seen is Charles deGaulle. The baggage claim mechanism is appalling.

Posted By PJW on November 8, 2010, 12:52 PM

Portland, Oregon PDX is my favorite airport - good places to eat and shop, both inside and outside security. Comfortable, bright, and airy concourses and no sales tax! Least favorite by far is Los Angeles LAX - it is the 9th circle of hell!

Posted By OCOzzie on November 8, 2010, 1:06 PM

Seattle SEA is one of my favorites. Efficient, attractive and feels spacious but not huge. Flying over and near the Puget Sound can be breathtaking, as well.

I try to avoid LAX and Minneapolis. LAX always seems to have more people than it can accommodate and the parts I have seen (near virgin america terminus)are unnattractive with poor choices for food. (Burger King and an overwhelmed Starbucks). Minneapolis I avoid because of the airport layout and the possibility of ice. I have bad memories of (more than once!) having 10 minutes to run from one end of the airport to the other with children to make connections with unhelpful Northwest personnel assisting and then missing the connection that Northwest booked me! I avoid Minneapolis mostly because of the bad memories.

Worst is Newark.Check-in in too small an area and the security people are like Nazis.Rude, yelling at passengers, slow.

Posted By liz on November 8, 2010, 1:44 PM

LAX Los Angeles, congested getting in and out of, to SMALL to begin with - soooooo unorganized and misinformation given out - (when and if you do find someone to help you) God help you if your airline changes a gate and you have to walk from Terminal 1 to Terminal 7.
SWA Southsest Air out of Burbank - one laid back ,easy to find everything, friendly terrific airport - AND BAGGAGE IS FREEEEEE!!!!
SAC Sacramento - well designed, friendly, amenable atmostphere.

Posted By Jean on November 8, 2010, 2:10 PM

ATLANTA - the worst run airport. On average you need to arrive at this airport a minimum of 2 hours prior to your flight just to get through the security lines. On arrival - the security lines may snake like lines on premium days at Disney World/Land.

If you are flying out of Atlanta - be prepared to stand in long lines.

Best Washington National? - I fly in and out of there with a minimum of effort. Lines are short through security taking a maximum of 15 min. Draw -back?

All Staff should be made aware of the allowance for Diabetics to go through security with 1 bottle of water and 1 sugared soft drink (in case of a low blood sugar indecent). I find myself being forced to explain that rule each time I enter a security line.

Posted By Mavis on November 8, 2010, 2:24 PM

Favorite: Denver - Always enjoy travel to or through Denver.

Least Favorite: Dallas-Fort Worth - I don't know how many times I've landed at DFW and just sat in the plane waiting for a gate to open. Arrivals and departures times never are correct.

Posted By James on November 8, 2010, 2:46 PM

favorite: seoul incheon, korea - very clean, lots of food places, there's a spa/salon/showers upstairs, free internet/computers, comfy places to sleep if you have a long/overnight layover. my part is the culture section where you can try on traditional wear, listen to traditional music & do korean arts/crafts

least faves: tie between jfk, ny & naia, manila - disorganized, dirty bathrooms, super long lines, rude staff

Posted By Rachelle on November 8, 2010, 3:08 PM

Least favorite: Mexico City, thanks largely to an unscheduled 17-hour layover there. (Thanks Mexicana! I've never been so happy to hear that an airline went bankrupt!)

Posted By Jay on November 8, 2010, 3:10 PM

Best - Nashville International. Lots of room and everyone is friendly.

Least - San Diego. Flew out of it for the first time last month and hated it! People were everywhere. Kiosk in the middle of the terminal. Not enough seating in the crowded SW terminal.

Posted By Jenny on November 8, 2010, 3:52 PM

By far, my favorite airport is Portland (Oregon) International Airport! Nice atmosphere and people, wonderful food and drink (think brew pubs, bakeries, coffee shops!), great shopping (NIKE, Columbia, Powell's Books, Pendleton) and no sales tax!

Posted By Diane on November 8, 2010, 4:35 PM

The Westchester County Airport, New York (aka White Plains Airport)is the BEST. There is no confusion because there are no cars allowed to linger in the front of the terminal. Actually there is only one terminal and all flights fly out of it. There is a waiting area about a quarter of a mile away with a large screen showing when flights arrive so that you can just pull up in front of the terminal and pick up whoever is departing the plane. Everyone is friendly and it is a pleasant atmosphere. I try to book from White Plains as much as possible. Small is better. JFK and LGA have too much confusion.

Favorite: Denver, Portland Oregon, Dallas-Ft Worth. All are Friendly, clean, good reastaurants and shopping.
Least favorite:Newark, JFK, and especially Miami!!! They are ugly, dated, dirty, unfriendly. Miami has decent restaurants and shopping but the whole experience is the worst in the industry.

Posted By Connie on November 8, 2010, 4:43 PM

Worst: Columbia, SC (Highest cost flights in the nation, little competition between airlines, no budget airline, ignorant people as airport workers, outrageous parking fees, stuck between two major hubs: Atlanta and Charlottee)

Best: Denver (clean, easy parking, good stores and eateries, and nice people)

Posted By Ray on November 8, 2010, 5:41 PM

Worst:Charles deGaulle...the french have a way of lying to you with a coy smile. I have had so many bad experiences at this airport i try to fly to Brussels and take the train to Paris.

Posted By KATE on November 8, 2010, 5:49 PM

best: PDX; Tegel

worst: CDG; Dulles; SVO

Posted By david on November 8, 2010, 7:45 PM

Best: Seattle Worst (by far) Heathrow (London)

Posted By Charles Carter on November 8, 2010, 8:47 PM

Best: Chicago. Lots of things to do and eat while waiting for a flight. I've never had a problem navigating the airport---everything is well marked.

Worst: Charles de Gaulle (Paris). Terrible to try to navigate this airport.

Posted By Beth on November 8, 2010, 10:26 PM

Favorites: Phoenix and Albuquerque. Both are clean, modern, easy to navigate, accessible gates, lots of clean restaurants and stores and easy car rentals.

Least: MIAMI!! The worst! LONG LONG concourses that are sometimes closed so you have to walk even farther! New international concourse is almost 1/4 mile long! Baggage pickup is AWFUL. We have waited over an hour for baggage at the carousel. Average is 45 minutes. Hardly any of the airport workers speaks English outside of ticket counters. Parking is over-crowded. Cellphone lot is inconvenient. And now they have a train connecting airport to car rental terminal. BUT, it only goes to one concourse in the airport! The WORST!

Posted By Cliff on November 9, 2010, 8:42 AM

Worst airports: JFK & LaGuardia - JFK is too spread out, not convenient to go from one airline to another, not friendly staff, disorganized. No seating areas before going through security. LaGuardia makes me anxious and upset because of the disorganization, unfriedly staff (this applies to several airlines), bad flow from entering the airport to finally going through security, and no seating area before going through security (For both airports I try to find a space near a window, away from people traffic, to get my carryons in order to go through security). Very upsetting. I try to go from the Newark airport instead of JFK or LaGuardia if I have a choice.

Best airports: Shanghai Pudung and Hong Kong - Clean, friendly staff on several airlines and the airports, plenty of seating areas before going through security, lovely eating places before going through security, incredible shopping, dining, and seating areas after going through security. I've been in both airports a couple of times and I'm always amazed at what a pleasant exsperience it is.

Posted By Jerry on November 10, 2010, 12:15 PM

Favorite: Zurich. Easy transfers, great shopping and almost all of the same great connecting destinations you might get at busier, less friendly places like FRA, CDG, or FCO.

Least Favorite: London Heathrow. Ever tried making a connection between the Ireland arrivals terminal and an onward flight to Asia or the U.S.? Hope you packed running shoes and an energy drink. (Chicago ORD, specifically Terminal 5, is a close second. Post metal-detector is a food and retail wasteland)

Posted By Rajeev on November 10, 2010, 10:32 PM

Best is Houston Hobby. It's near downtown. You can take a shuttle and be there in 30 minutes, door to door. Also, Leon Airport (BJX) in Mexico. It's compact and the workers are happy to serve you. Tel Aviv is open, feels safe, moves you along without crowds, like a stroll in the park. Also, when you arrive, the people behind the barrier are so eager to meet the passengers. It's like a party for everyone.

Worst: JFK for all the reasons already mentioned. I'd rather go to La Guardia. Mexico City is beyond worst. They move you around from gate to gate. It's a nightmare with crowds.

Posted By Brenda on November 11, 2010, 10:16 AM

FAV - Singapore Changi and Johanesburg. Both are big, organised and clean with great facilities. LOTS of shops to kill the time!

WORST - Los Angeles for the opposite reasons from above - unorganised, poor facilities and no good shopping and dining. When will they realise they have a captive audience that will spend money if the facilities are good?

Posted By Robyn Dhaw on November 11, 2010, 4:15 PM

Best Airport - Seattle
Worst - Los Angeles

Posted By anne on November 11, 2010, 6:10 PM

FAVORITE: ONT Ontario, CA. nice, friendly employees, clean and spacious.
Least Favorite? LAX dirty, crowded.

Best: NRT (Tokyo)

Worst: GUA (Guatemala City)

Posted By Gloria on November 11, 2010, 9:32 PM

Knoxville, TN airport is by far the sweetest airport ever. Who can resist lounging in one of dozens of Hinkley rocking chairs while waiting for your flight. Big rockers, kiddie rockers, couples rockers!

Chicago and Honolulu tie for the most complicated and hectic connecting flight process. I call it the Airport Marathon! Deplane. Run with luggage to schuttle. Ride a mile or so to another part of the airport. Disembark shuttle. Answer nature's call? Food and drink? Whew! Jog with luggage to connecting flight gate. Time to board.Having fun yet?

Posted By millie on November 11, 2010, 10:17 PM

since 9-11 the re-structuring of all airports in this country has changed
now instead of taking someone to the airport-staying with the individual
spending the last few hours
hanging out and grab something to eat together
we drop off at the airport
the only airport presently i can say is somewhat nice would be LGA
but when you shop you must find your way to your terminal
IAH is great beyond security-i want to see a shuffling of people like me travelling not a quiet terminal i can hear the pin drop
JFK NOT USER FRIENDLY & Im there constantly

Posted By PEPE on November 11, 2010, 11:25 PM

de Gaulle has to be my least favorite airport. Steel circular steps have claimed victims on each of my last few flights through there.

Posted By BertB on November 12, 2010, 9:18 AM

The worst by far is Charles de Gaulle. My favorites are Chicago O'Hare and Phoenix Sky Harbor.

Posted By TC on November 12, 2010, 11:13 AM

Least favorite airport, I actually have 2 - Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago
Favorite airport San Diego

Posted By Jean on November 12, 2010, 1:58 PM

WORST AIRPORT - LAX. Why is the gateway to the east so horrid!?!?! Once your past security its like entering a prison. Nothing to eat or see.

BEST AIRPORT - Singapore. FREE internet, shows, luggage carts aka shopping carts, pool, sleeping rooms, arcade area, etc . .. I don't mind a layover here.

Posted By msbianca2 on November 12, 2010, 7:47 PM

My fav airport has to be Schipol in Amsterdam. It's so very comfortable and spacious and the patrons are largely laissez-faire and that's a good thing. Furthermore, it's very accessible by bike which is not something I can say about most airports. Without a doubt, Schipol has one of the best vibes of any airport I've ever visited.

Posted By Rob Steen on November 13, 2010, 5:39 PM

Best: Milwaukee - helpful staff, easy to navigate, good food available, even a good used book store! Also, Nashville - helpful staff, good shopping, nice atmosphere

Worst: LAX, Kennedy - unorganized, too big, dirty, unhelpful staff - unpleasant and inefficient

Posted By elspeth on November 14, 2010, 10:26 PM

Recently traveled thru Charlotte ,very nice.Worst Istanbul and JFK

Posted By Lwyatt on November 15, 2010, 1:57 AM

Best - Reagan in Washington, DC. It's small and easy to get in and out. Baggage comes quickly.

Worst - Atlanta. always crowed and delayed

Posted By Lorri on November 15, 2010, 9:25 AM

The best airport is Amsterdam Schiphol. Plenty of shopping and seating. Comfy couches if you choose and I hear you can even get a room if you have a long lay over. Signage is great. Announcements are timely regarding gate changes or delays.

The worst airport is Paris. No explanation needed.

Posted By Beth on November 15, 2010, 11:08 AM

Best: Baltimore/Washington (easy to use and great prices. Milwaukee is another gem.

Worst: Paris CDG (you don't know frustration until you've been there). It even "worsts" JFK and LAX. New Orleans would also be on my list for being very unimpressive.

Posted By David J Plazak on November 15, 2010, 1:28 PM

Worst (by far) is Atlanta: rude, rude TSA employees (of course they are rude every where). Forced to make a huge line just to get out of the place. No signs with instructions--just shouts from apparently illiterate employees who behave as if they are on leave from their day job as prison guards. Second worse: Miami, where the employees are just as rude, but also incomprehensible because they speak a weird Cuban-Americanish Spanish which they expect everyone to understand. Best--Ronald Reagan in Washington is lovely and quiet, and I actually like Charles de Gaulle (maybe it depends on the airline). Abu Dhabi is nice and quiet, too.

Posted By Zoe on November 15, 2010, 1:36 PM

Best: Washington-Reagan. So clean, easy and convenient.

Worst: Atlanta. What a nightmare!

Posted By Mary on November 15, 2010, 1:52 PM

Best: MSP airport. Clean, friendly, and efficient.
Worst: Atlanta. A lot of delays.

Posted By Lisa on November 15, 2010, 3:01 PM

My favorites: schiphol, Sacramento, Ft. Lauderdale, Seatac
Worst: Heathrow, San Diego, LAX, SFO,

Posted By Jobro on November 15, 2010, 3:12 PM

WORST AIRPORT EVER: Paris Charles de Gaulle - too spread out, not enough information, etc.

HPN is great, but it is small. For larger airports, I believe PIT is the best. One reason--ANYTHING you buy there is priced the same as the stores outside the airport. NO price gouging!

Among the worst--LAX--very unhappy people working there who are rude to passengers. HOU is the worst for connections. Airlines book connections in HOU which are impossihle to make if one has to change terminals.

Posted By Loretta on November 15, 2010, 3:31 PM

Favorite is the one on Kauai--it is very small and impossible to get lost in and so friendly. Your rental car is right there across the street. My least favorite was San Jose, Ca--they were remodeling and almost no where to eat beyond security.

Posted By diane on November 15, 2010, 4:03 PM

Best airport: Singapore Changi, has plenty of ammenities, even swimming pool if you need one. Top notch lounge, a lot of shopping and dinning choices. Cleanliness is unbeatable, clearly displayed directions. You feel very secure to be in Changi. That's why Singapore Changi always received Best Airport Awards by Skytrax.

Worst aiport: Manila NAIA, outdated aiports in almost every aspects. Dirty, bare minimum ammenities, even the lounge can't be considered as a lounge. Lines are ridiculous and chaotic as always. Security, makes me feel afraid flying out of here all the time, not sure if the security really knows and does what they suppose to check. Immigration officers acts like they are God or something. This is why Philippines are lagging behind in tourism compared to all of their south east asian neighbors.

Posted By Theodore on November 15, 2010, 11:35 PM

No one has said SFO- San Francisco- the BEST airport food, everything from sushi to garlic fries, mexican fajitas, incredible sourdough bread bowls of chowder. Easy in, easy out.
SEATAC is the easy 2nd- another great foodie airport and great shopping.
WORST- Dublin, Ireland- at least 4 long lines and you go through US customs there for another line!

Posted By Becky on November 16, 2010, 12:26 AM

Worst: All of them.
Best: none of them.

Posted By keith baker on November 16, 2010, 2:09 AM

Best: Agree Schiphol in Amsterdam-Munich has great shopping- Detroit is pretty nice except TSA
Worst: Newark worst layout grungy avoid like the plague!Follow the directions of the "Gestapo" and you'll miss your flight!
Amusing: Basil, Switzerland- left side is France, right side is Swiss-parking lot whatever

LEAST...Charles de Gaulle...by far the worst.

MOST FAVORITE...Atlanta...

Posted By Elaine on November 18, 2010, 11:37 AM

FAVORITE: DFW-Dallas Fort Wort-It's always clean and the SkyLink makes it easy to get around.

LEAST FAVORITE: MIA-Miami International-It takes forever to get from one place to another and they always seem to lose luggage, change the carousels and forget to announce it (or put it on the screens) and last time I was there the bathrooms were disgusting!!!

Posted By Wendy on November 18, 2010, 2:46 PM

Clean - Denver, Istanbul, Atlanta
Clean & Easy - Reagan, Washington DC
Pitts - JFK & LAX, dirty, boring with loads of rude employees. Embarassing for port of entry.
Worst - London, Heathrow, rude, confusing always ( about 20 + yrs) under construction

Posted By Kc on November 18, 2010, 2:49 PM

LOVE Honolulu - because you're in Hawaii!!

HATE Reagan in D.C. - too much bus riding &
stair climbing

Posted By Mary D. on November 18, 2010, 3:21 PM

Best-Detroit

Worst-Chicago (lost luggage)

Posted By Dawn on November 18, 2010, 4:16 PM

The new terminals at Barajas in Madrid are AMAZING. Not only do they constantly provide time estimates from your position to your gate overhead, the structural elements gradually change color as you walk from one end to the other. I'm partial to O'Hare because I know it so well, and Detroit's overhead trains are superslick. DFW and ATL are just too big to be of good use to anyone. LAX and MIA have to be the most depressing and dysfunctional.

Posted By Ian on November 18, 2010, 4:48 PM

WORST- Charles de Gaulle- Its so congested, they fly you into a cornfield seemingly miles away. Then they bus you in, process you and bus you back out to the cornfield. Stick to Zurich.
BEST- Ft.Lauderdale- Small enough for you to be in and out in minutes. Large enough for a few international flights.

Posted By Ricardo D. on November 18, 2010, 11:12 PM

I cannot stand John F Kennedy airport. It is not only ugly and definitely outdated for the growing air space traffic

Posted By robert on November 19, 2010, 11:55 AM

Best-Portland International
Worst-Ft. Lauderdale. The only food stall had pre-packaged lousy sandwiches. Very unimpressive.

Posted By Jean on November 21, 2010, 12:37 AM

Schiphol in Amsterdam is well laid out, with many places to eat and shop. the train is under the station. get a ticket, go down the suitcase friendly escalator, and go anywhere in Europe. the airport is a 10 minute train ride from the city center.

Posted By Gail on November 21, 2010, 7:46 AM

Best: Dallas DFW, Schiphol, Gatwick
Worst: Chicago ORD, Cleveland, Newark, Atlanta, Heathrow

Posted By Ken on November 21, 2010, 7:37 PM

Dallas Ft Worth - DFW is my favorite airport; the skylink makes it very easy to navigate, great restaurants and shopping.

Heathrow takes the number one spot for HORRIFIC airport. Poor signage, employees are not even sure where specific gates are!

Posted By Valerie Phillis on November 22, 2010, 10:05 AM

Tampa, FL for proximity to the city center, Charlotte, NC for layout, food and shopping options.

Posted By Heather on November 22, 2010, 10:07 AM

Most Favorite: Pittsburgh
It's open, uncluttered and easy to navigate.

Least Favorite: Newark
It's slow, inefficient, and the employees are rude and unhelpful.

Posted By Shamrock Kid on November 22, 2010, 11:35 AM

My Favorite:
Tulsa- just beause of everything is past security and the staff is plesant and helpful.

Heathrow- clean and efficent to get around, transportation is easy to access especically the tube to the city is fast and easy.

Sydney International Airport in Australia- Staff is very helpful and cheerful, customs and immigrations are easy to go through, duty free shopping is excellent (The only Victoria's Secret store I ever have seen in an airport!)

The Horrible ones:
Charles de Gaulle- I just pray every time that my bags make it through, enough said.

LAX- transportation between terminals needs updating big time and the staff is horrid and unhelpful.

DFW- flying through there during or after bad weather is horrid enough.

Posted By Gina on November 22, 2010, 4:10 PM

Favourite Airport: Singapore's Changi Airport. It is modern, clean and very well maintained. everything works perfectly, it's almost as if you aren't in an airport.
Worst: Atlanta's Hartsfield. This is hard to say as it is my home airport. It is so poorly run, it's hard to imagine it is the busiest airport in the world. No one who works in that airport is friendly. There is little shopping and even less restaurants. Going thru customs is a joke. Not the customs officials, but security after customs.
If I had a choice, I would never fly out of Hartsfield.
I travel a lot, and think that Atlanta has a long way to go before it can make it's airport a world leader.

Posted By Mark on November 23, 2010, 9:35 AM

Best airport....Charlotte and Nashville
Worst by far....LaGuardia in line to take off is such a wait!!!

Posted By Kath on November 23, 2010, 11:39 AM

Best: Denver (feels more like a mall)
Worst: Toronto, Canada- need I say more? TO is not the centre of the universe and neither is your airport.

Posted By HH on November 23, 2010, 11:19 PM

Best- Heathrow- huge, but has food and shopping once you get checked in, and Minneapolis- cleanest airport I've ever been in. Chicago was a breeze for me, and great eateries. Bemdji, MN- Fantastic job of checking luggage and passengers long before terrorism was even thought of- perhaps because they are a border town. (My spare change set off their sensors, where it hadn't in the larger airports I took to get to there).

Worst- Toronto. On my first Internat'l. trip, the guy with luggage cart rammed the airplane unexpectedly after loading the luaggage, and we had started boarding, causing us to be delayed leaving by 12 hours, and moving the plane on the ground by several feet.(It was amusing seeing them try to fix that door with silicone spray and duct tape ... before giving up and sending for another plane). To be fair, they airline did follow protocol by releasing us bit by bit off the airplane, into the outer hallway, and finally into the airport, and eventually fed us after 10:30 pm. No one told us that the new plane would be in a totally different wing of the airport- we found that out on our own- each of us- individually. The important part is, we all made it over the pond, and back, and our flight crew did not fall asleep at the helm, as far as we knew.

Posted By Diane Thomas on November 24, 2010, 11:24 AM

Worst has to be New Orleans. It's an absolute hole, and I was there in 1996, WAY before Katrina! I thought that a city with the Sugar Bowl and Mardi Gras every year and a Super Bowl every so often, the airport would be more up to par. WRONG!

I enjoyed Huntsville, Alabama's airport. Very cute and clean. Savannah's Airport is also quite cute and homey. I also love London Heathrow...the variety of planes is incredible. For an airplane buff like me, it's fabulous!

Posted By Terri on November 24, 2010, 2:34 PM

I judge on the fact that I have an artificial knee and a pin in my shoulder that sets off the alarms. My home town of Atlanta and Vancouver gave me the hardest times and were the rudest.
Chicago Midway was the nicest and most pleasant. Good eating.

Like: Edinburgh, Seattle, Portland, Gatwick

Dislike: Heathrow (by far, especially if changing terminals); Atlanta (when there is ANY kind of weather in the area; Munich

Favorite:Seoul/Incheon - It's exceptionally clean and well-organized. Free internet lounges and wi-fi are great, as well as the friendly staff. It's easier to navigate this airport in a foreign country than stOOpid LAX.

Least favorite: LAX - It's dirty. People are rude there. It's a bit of a clusterfcuk to change terminals, especially when your connecting flight is delayed on the tarmac for an hour.

My favourite airport is GLASGOW AIRPORT in Scotland. Its my favourite because when I land there I am home adn myfamily is a few minutes ride which means I am five minutes from ultimate happiness

Best: Shanghai Pudong Intl. it is clean and user friendly and you can reach it via the Maglev bullet train. Beijing Intl.is a close second, roomy and the Asian vases are amazing and the sculptures too.

Worst: JFK, I still have nightmares about the place, never again, it is the worst place.

Posted By JP on December 1, 2010, 1:03 AM

Best: Teeny tiny Santa Barbara--so relaxed, only two gates!
Worst: Mexico City. Woof. Each time I've been through, there's a problem. Last time it was an 18 hour slog with supposedly no seats on multiple upcoming flights, and when we headed to the gate early for our plane, the guy at the counter said, "Oh, you should have come sooner. There were seats on the flight that just left." Arrrragh!

Miami's new American Airlines terminal is beautiful with less hassle than it has been in the past. Ft Lauderdale is easy if you are flying domestically, but clearing immigration is a nightmare - at least the times I have traveled. Last week it took me almost an hour to clear immigration and the time before that it was 2 hours!

Best Airport:
MSP- Easy, all Delta flights are close to each other. Nice workers. Clean.
Reagan National- ALL flights are close. Good gift shopping. Good food. Clean.
Newark- Quiet, food and shopping closely located to terminals.

Worst:
Sioux Falls- No shopping past security! Not much for food.

Posted By Colin on December 1, 2010, 5:02 PM

Least favorite: JFK. It's hard to get to, impossible for inter-airline transfers, expensive, crowded, dirty, you name it.

Favorite: John Wayne Airport; Santa Ana, CA. Elegant, not too hectic.

Best Airport - Incheon International in Seoul South Korea - very clean, the people are very pleasant and helpful and getting in and out of the airport is the quickest I have encountered in North America, South America or Asia Pacific.
Worst Airport - LAX - what a dump and poorly laid out - I missed a flight because I add to walk from one terminal to the international terminal as the shuttle buses appear to only go one-way between the two (and in my case - the longest way). Food was barely edible, and poor selection

My best airport is SDF ,Louisville, KY.
Friendly, people greet you with a smile, you walk out the door to your rental car.
My wife is from there.

Worst airport, my home , PHL, Philly. most unfriendly place, airport workers hang around the terminal resturants oggling at the women passengers. Sky Caps gouge you. I'm ashamed of that place and have written to PHL and US air about it. When my wife and I tavel to her home and then return to PHL we look at each other and say "We'er Back".
We now drive that trip whenever possible.

I judge airports by how user friendly they are - for a first time user.

#1&2
LAX - moves millions, the easy way.
San Francisco - small and user friendly, including ground transportation.

WORST - Denver - that sh+thole - hotel vans service either the WEST or East entrances... and if someone is picking you up??? who knows? which floor? which side?

and if the power goes out - as it does - no trams to gates B or C - Everything comes to a screeching halt.

Good news - A tornado will take out the whole operation soon. It never should have been built out there on the plains, but for the worthless property of some well connected cowboys in politics in Denver... including Pena that creep.

This happy traveler will laugh out loud when the whole thing is swept away in winds off the front range... and not a moment too soon.

WOW - everybody hates LAX

I didn't read those until I commented. I admit - if you are changing from national to international - it could be a bit of a walk.

but I fly in and out of LAX all the time nationally on southwest... and it's so easy... so quick... no hassles for cars or hotels.

sorry.. LAX does a hell of a job for the number of people... [traveling within the states]

Denver is a nightmare for EVERYONE

My favorite airport is Savannah, Georgia...an absolute gem with a "park" in the center of the terminal and welcoming faces everywhere. In addition, there is very inexpensive long-term parking available just steps away from the terminal building. My least favorite airport by a mile is Charles de Gaulle. I go out of my way to avoid plane changes there ...will only fly into de Gaulle if Paris is my final destination and a friend is meeting the plane!

Best: Washington National Reagan, Barcelona, Spain, and Helsinki, Finland. Efficient and clean.

Worst: Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Posted By Kari on December 2, 2010, 8:09 PM

Best: HONG KONG
Comfortable, clean, friendly staff, easy to navigate, and CX is the best airline. period.

Least favorite: none.
being anywhere on a trip, whether for business or pleasure is just the best feeling. For many it becomes a chore because they are on the 'road' so often; yet, when you are sidelined and no longer have the expense account to jump on a flight, you will wish for any flight out of your bland existence.

Best International airports: Seoul,Singapore
Best Domestic: Denver, Ft. Lauderdale

Worst International: Heathrow..horrible logistics
Worst Domestic Miami...insane, JFK...obsolete, crummy

Posted By Rod on December 6, 2010, 2:25 PM

Best airports: Pittsburgh, Pa , Madrid Spain and Lihue, Hawaii These are small, medium and large airports that are so easy to navigate. The subway lines in Madrid's airport can get you to the city center in less than 30 minutes.

Worst airports: DFW... an absolute royal pain due to weather problems, changing terminals and catching your connecting flight. Delays are unbelievable and southern hospitality... where is that ?

1. Renaissance. 2.Embassy Suites & 3.Doubletree(fresh baked cookies)

Posted By Lynnette Vazquez-Rivera on December 6, 2010, 9:17 PM

Best: Vancouver BC. All spruced up for Winter Olympics. Shopping, restaurants and great artwork.
Tampa Bay. Easy to navigate with satellite terminal system. Lots to do.

Worst: Miami, old and dirty.

Posted By Ken on December 6, 2010, 9:35 PM

Best:
Milwaukee - beautifully remodelled with good shopping and food. A nice place for a layover. Great used bookstore.
Phoenix - my hometown airport. Easy to get around, clean, friendly.
Chicago - although huge, easy to manuever with great food and shopping!

Worst:
Atlanta - for all the reasons others have listed.

Worst: Bandaranaike International Airport .....it the smell....good grief. Everything else was distorted by the funk!

Best: Honolulu....its home. It could stink too...but its home.

Posted By Mike Standefer on December 7, 2010, 6:21 PM

LAX International.....the worst, the person who said it was like entering a prison (prison camp to me) was so correct, what a PIT.

Favorite is Hong Kong, so open, clean tons of places to eat and things to look at. Easy access to the city by subway. You can even rent a little sleeping cube and get a shower if you have a layover. Next favorite is my home town Eugene, Oregon's Airport, lots of parking and easy check in, good food and lots of smiles from TSA and everyone working there.

I am going to go with two of each category:

Best:
Vancouver, Canada - arriving at the International Terminal immediately relaxes you
Singapore, Changi - fresh orchids abound, lots of amenities

Honorary mention for Best:
Rarotonga-Cook Islands - nothing like chickens wandering through an airport to make you realize you aren't in Kansas anymore!

Worst:
Heathrow - seems to have just expanded in a jumble, just a mess and claustrophobic feeling
LAX - difficult to comprehend layout, terminals, etc...

Honorary mention for worst also goes to Philedelphia as the various lineups when coming internationally/transferring are always painful and seem short staffed

Posted By Scott John on December 8, 2010, 5:56 AM

Best: MUC, SEA, YYC

Worst: MIA, LGA, MVD

I find it funny when people complain about tiny airports having no selection for shopping or dining. Haha what do you expect in Sioux Falls?

Posted By Ty Guy on December 8, 2010, 5:11 PM

Favorite: Schipol in Amsterdam. Best place ever if you have to deal with a cancellation or flight delay as tons to see, do, eat and buy here.

Worst: Montego Bay, Jamaica
Total chaos

Posted By Bev Wilson on December 8, 2010, 8:31 PM

Favorites: Schipol-beautiful, clean, friendly; Charlotte- easy to navigate, clean, friendly; Louisville - great toilets!

Worst: CDG - the long bus ride made me wonder if I was going to ride to Rome, total confusion; Philadelphis- rude, rude, rude!

I have to admit I don't hate ATL. Used to fly thru there every week and could get around there in my sleep.

Posted By marie on December 9, 2010, 10:37 AM

Favorite airports: Austin (not just because it's my home, but because it's cool), and Tampa (things always seem to "flow" well there)

Least Favorite airports: Miami (pure chaos and not much "English spoken here"); DFW a close 2nd, because it's so spread out; and LAX is THE WORST for international travel!!!

Posted By Julie on December 9, 2010, 2:05 PM

I hate JFK & LGA in New York. I try to avoid them whenever I can. I love Westchester/White Plains NY (HPN) for the ease of claiming bags, getting a rental car and checking in. The waiting room is the only downside. Seattle (SEA) rates high scores for checking in, food options, waiting rooms & baggage claim. Security is problematic but where is that not an issue? Charles de Gaulle rates high in my estimation for customer service. Burbank in the Los Angeles area is my airport of choice for the L.A. area.

Posted By Jim on December 9, 2010, 3:19 PM

SAN DIEGO - hands down... the flight path / approach (weather permitting) is amazing. Sit on the left side of the plane to see Mexico, San Diego's South Bay, Coronado Island (bridge, Hotel Del), 32nd Street Naval Station and the San Diego Bay (Star of India, sailboats, submarines, Coast Guard...). Sit on the right side of the plane to see Balboa Park (Prado, Laurel Street bridge), greater San Diego, and the incredible approach over San Diego's downtown skyline. Either way, the approach is beautiful, and with only one landing option (again, weather - reverse pattern) you always feel as if you are the only plane that matters to dear little Lindbergh Field!

Posted By Megan on December 9, 2010, 3:45 PM

Favorite - Charlotte, NC - just big enough to keep you entertained, and the rocking chairs are a cute touch.

Worst - Miami - very little signage, almost no place to shop and eat in certain sections and few workers spoke English. Also worst - Charles de Gualle, Paris - the stinky armpit of airports where "mass confusion" must be their mission and goal.

Posted By rej on December 9, 2010, 3:53 PM

JFK is both - Terminal 7, where United, British and some other foreign airlies are, is my favorite. It's compact (no endless concourses), pleasant and generally well-lit, without ever seeming crowded. Just an excellent layout. Delta, at Terminals 2 & 3, is a disaster. Way too spread-out, ugly, dim and confusing.

I don't understand people's adoration of PDX. It's not a bad airport, but it's so gloomy! Totally agree with those who indicate MIA as a least favorite - what a disaster that place is.

Posted By Kevin on December 9, 2010, 4:27 PM

Favorite: Narita in Japan, spacious, courteous, clean, efficient, great food, places to rest, places for kids to play, fun shopping, easy to navigate, adds to the fun
Least Favorite: LAX, dirty, lack of signage, lack of personnel, lack of decent food and amenities in some terminals, weird transportation between terminals, prehistoric sound system

Posted By Jenny on December 9, 2010, 11:19 PM

Favorite Airport: Changi - Singapore Airport - hands down! Not only is it easy to navigate, but also in-transit passengers can do everything from sleep at the In-Transit Hotel, work out at the gym, swim in the roof top pool, get a free foot and leg massage, enjoy free 15 minute Internet access, eat international food, walk from Terminal 3 to 1 and 2 for exercise, and shop 'til you drop.

Least Favorite Airport: LAX - dirty, disorganized, lack of signage, personnel, decent food, and other amenities warranted by a high traffic domestic and international airport. Given its proximity to such a high-end clientele, it's amazing the airport isn't more up-to-date, traveler-friendly, and service-oriented.

Posted By Sylvia on December 10, 2010, 12:02 AM

Favorite Airport: Phoenix. Clean, organized, easy to navigate.

Least favorite: Houston Intercontinental--the hallways are endless, the food options are limited and everything is delayed.

Posted By Chris on December 10, 2010, 10:29 AM

I found sollution for huge airports (ie-Atlanta)
For those of us that are seniors and need handicap
assistance - this is the time to really use it. They take you to your gate and avoid all the confusion for us.
For those of us that are diabetic - your best solution was take an empty water bottle through security and fill it at the water fountain. Love that one.

Posted By C. Tiebout on December 10, 2010, 12:45 PM

Best Airport: Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Houston,TX. Coming back from Guatemala, it was so easy getting through customs. A very clean, efficient, beautiful airport.

Worst Airport: Malpensa, Milan, Italy. The shuttle bus from the downtown railway station takes forever to get to the airport, then drops you on the ground level. No informative signage anywhere. Then you have to find the elevator to the second floor. Again, no signage. My wife shouted "Delta" at a besieged agent in an information kiosk and she pointed in the general direction. Only two or three ticket agents with two Delta flights leaving at the same time for Atlanta and New York. Then another long hike in the opposite direction to security check, and then another long hike in another direction to the gate and an additional security check. Then we had to walk outside and wait in a long line to go up the ramp to board the airplane. Awful, awful, awful!!!

Posted By Bill Mashburn on December 10, 2010, 2:10 PM

The world's worst has to be JFK - it is spreadout, totally disorganised and,of course this being New York, everyone is in a hurry and rude. Connection to the international terminal involves a mile trek to get on a bus to go halfway round the airport and the climb to the third floor and walk another mile !!

Posted By Christopher Hartley on December 10, 2010, 4:01 PM

The staff at Atlanta are the most hateful anywhere I have traveled. TSA and Customs herd people like cattle, fuss at them and generally belittle them in the process of departing and arriving. I go out of my way and take one and two stop flights to avoid Atlanta, especially for international arrivals. I realize they are busy, but that does not require them to be ugly to people.

Posted By Michael Long on January 5, 2011, 11:39 AM

Favorite: Knoxville Tennesee. I don't live there, but have children there. It is small, very light and open. They have a nice area where you can watch the runways, with rocking chairs that you can sit and relax in.
Least Favorite: That one with the TSA folks.

Posted By Steve Morgan on January 6, 2011, 1:25 PM

Kansas City, MO (MCI)is my favorite airport. Every group of 6 gates has its own security checkpoint and baggage claim. Word is that it was designed by Howard Hughes who did not want to walk more than 50 feet to get to his airplane. (Please do not print my email address.)

Posted By Anne Keiser on January 10, 2011, 12:18 PM

best: Charlotte,Maybe because we usually fly there and know where everything is. We have never had problems there.
Worse: LAX : Worse place I have ever flown . Rudest employees and most disorganized place ever!!! We plan our trips now in order to bypass them. If you have to go through LA we pick another trip!

Posted By Claudette Kirkner on January 26, 2011, 10:19 AM

Best airports: Nashville, Charlotte, Fort Lauderdale
Worst: St. Louis, San Juan, Dallas-Fort Worth

Posted By James Carnes on March 16, 2011, 7:57 PM

Best: Sarasota, from the time you land and pick up your bags, 20 minutes tops.
Worst: St. Louis, worst egg sandwich in my life.
