Man caught at airport with 18 monkeys under his shirt
Posted by: Brad Tuttle, Tuesday, Jul 20, 2010, 1:12 PM

Authorities say the man appeared nervous during questioning. Uh, no wonder!

According to a CNN report, the 38-year-old man smuggled the tiny titi monkeys—an endangered species, which can only be transported across borders with a permit—in a belt underneath his shirt on a six-hour flight from Lima, Peru, to Mexico City. The man said that at first he put the monkeys in a suitcase, but then, because he was concerned about the monkeys being hurt by radiation from X-ray machines, changed plans and stuffed them under his baggy shirt. When Mexican officials discovered the "pets," as the man called them, security officers also discovered that two of the poor miniscule monkeys hadn't survived the journey.

For more odd tales, check out our round-up of Bizarre Traveler Behavior, including a tourist who tried to board a flight from Boston with a 15-pound hunk of cobblestone taken from the old city street, a woman who placed 5.5 pounds of chorizo into her baby's diaper before crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, and a California man who attempted to smuggle monkeys from Indonesia into LAX airport in his pants—OK, it was only two pygmy monkeys rather than 18, but the guy was also illegally carrying four exotic birds and 50 rare orchids.

That's indeed a bizarre story! Such people are wreaking havoc not only on the system but also endangering our nature! Strict action should be taken against such people so that others contemplating to do so are discouraged..!

I think he should serve jail time for killing the poor little monkeys.
