Readers' most unusual landmark photos

World-famous icons like the Eiffel Tower and Rio's Christ the Redeemer statue pose a true challenge for travelers, who often come home with the same images taken countless times over. But that wasn't the case for myBT member awc007, who shot this spectacular photo of Easter Island from a different perspective—the moai's-eye view.

Kudos to all the readers whose fresh takes made it into our slide show; their 19 images will inspire you to rethink classic landmarks and try out new photo techniques.

See our slide show.

How to Take Picture-perfect Photos

Reader Comments

I'd love to see this slideshow, but each picture loads so slowly that I can't spare the time. I have this problem with every Budget Travel slideshow.

At least you got to see a photo. I have high speed internet, and the page was open for 15 minutes and there was still no photo on the page.

Thanks for your comments. We're sorry to hear that you're having some trouble seeing the slide show. We have tested this on multiple computers using multiple browsers and are not experiencing the same slowness, but we realize that there may be some delays on some machines. We regret the inconvenience.

Thank you again,

I don't have any problems viewing. I love this feature, especially the one today of unusual views of landmarks. Want to see more!

I have high-speed Verizon internet and couldn't get past the first few slides. Long delays.

i have an apple macbook pro and the slideshow shut off for me .

I had no problems viewing the slideshow and enjoyed every photo. The one of Monument Valley was of particular interest since we will be visiting the Four Corners area ---Mesa Verde NP, Canyon de Chilly, Monument Valley--next week. The other photos are on my long list of places I want to visit.

I now use DSL and had no problems watching the slideshow. I love the photo of the lake on Easter Island. Usually photos only show us the moai, not any part of the island. I'd love to see it in person.

I agree with Bonnie - I so enjoy this feature, and this was the best collection of photos yet!

I, too often have trouble with slow downloads on the Budget slide shows but thankfully this one worked great. This is unquestionably one of my favorite Budget slide shows ever. Great shots all!

If you are having problems with inability to load/slow to load you may have a virus, trojan, or worm. You may also have spyware junking up your computer. Test your internet connection, or call your ISP and describe your issues. A different browser, like Google Chrome, Cometbird, or Opera may work better. Lastly, if you can, plug your computer into someone else's line that you know has good signal/service and see if you still have the issues. Out of frustration and a strong desire not to pay someone a lot of money I backed up all my files on an external drive and reinstalled my operating system. By all means try less drastic measures first. I did, but they didn't work so great for me. Now I'm great, and the show loaded beautifully. I loved several of these, especially the Atomium!

How do I find out when you are letting readers send in a photo for your various categories, such as doorways, night scenes, etc. Thank you

I also have Verizon and had no trouble. Love the show.

For me, the issue with viewing the photo slideshows relates to which ads are shown with it. Most static ads are fine, but the animated ads slow my browser to a crawl. I know someone has to pay the bills, but I think limiting the ads to only static versions would allow more folks to enjoy the amazing photos.

I have no trouble seeing these wonderful photographs, but cannot see the captions and have to guess where the photos were taken. Any attempt to scroll down just triggers the next photo.
