Renew it: Passport Day is this Saturday

This Saturday, March 27, is Passport Day. Nationwide, 23 passport offices will be open Saturday for extended hours. Plus, you won't need an appointment to apply for or renew a passport.

Additionally, other facilities will be participating—city halls, post offices, and more. To see the nearest event in your state, check out the government's website or call the National Passport Information Center at 877/487-2778.

If you promised yourself this was the year you were going to take care of your passport, do it on Saturday. As we reported last month, the fees could get more expensive very soon.

Who knows, there might even be balloons and stuff—some of the participating institutions are calling this a "Passport Fair." We'll celebrate anything that makes travel easier, so cheers!

I only have 3 pages, but 6 years left on my passport...can I add pages during the passport fair?

Chris, you can add pages by going to the Department of State website at http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html

Go to Correcting or Changing information, then add pages. If you have 2-4 pages remaining, you can get them added at no charge by mailing in the book and Form DS-4085.

I just renewed our expired passports by mail, so I looked around!

Thank you so much for providing this information! My husband and I had been trying for months to apply for our passports, but the Passport Agency wouldn't accept the application (according to Travel.gov) unless we were leaving within two weeks, the Passport Acceptance Facilities required either appointments (which were weeks out) or were only open Monday through Friday from 7:30 - 5:00. Since my husband and I work on completely opposite sides of town, getting our passports mid-week wasn't an option.

I got the notice on the Blog about Passport Day on Friday. On Saturday, my hubby and I headed down to the Passport Agency to get the application materials turned in. We waited 5 minutes, talked to some of the friendliest people in Colorado, and will have our passports back in two weeks. Can't wait to start travelling!!!

Thanks again BT!

Siri Nolan, That's great news. Yay!

Sarah, Thanks for helping out with the tips on the passport pages!

Got the passports last week! It didn't even take a full week to process. Went to the passport facility Saturday and had brand spanking new passports on Friday! Go Colorado Passport Agency!
