Save/ShareDirect Air, a lesser-known carrier based in Myrtle Beach, S.C., is celebrating its fourth birthday with a sale knocking 50 percent off all flights.
As the carrier's name suggests, Direct Air doesn't use the old-fashioned hub-and-spoke system. Instead, it flies non-stop routes only, typically from B- or C-list airports in the Midwest and Northeast to a few sunny spots in Florida, along with its headquarters on the beach in South Carolina. The airline is one of several up-and-comers "Flying Under the Radar," which we highlighted not long ago, and which have interesting business models that may very well challenge the carriers we've all been flying for decades.
To get the half-off deal, visit Direct Air's website and punch in the coupon code EMDA24 before doing your search. You can also call the airline at 877/432-3473 and reference the offer to get your discount. In scouting out the possibilities, we found round-trip fares totaling $166 (factoring in the discount, with all taxes and fees included) on routes such as Kalamazoo, Mich. to Punta Gorda, Fla., Newark, N.J., to Myrtle Beach, and Niagara Falls, N.Y. to Melbourne, Fla.
To get the discount, tickets have to be purchased by March 7.

Site won't allow me to choose outbound and inbound flight dates. Guess this one was 'too good to be true'

Sorry to hear that you're having a problem. I just tried the site with sample departure and arrival cities and it worked fine...
Maybe it was a temporary hiccup? Try again?

Direct Air is the WORST airline I have ever flown.
They are a charter airline and it is common that no one answers the phone or their website is down.
They purposely mislead customers into thinking they fly to Ft. Myers when they actually fly into Punta Gorda. I've seen many passengers left stranded at the wrong airport due to their misleading advertising. They contract with multiple companies (one is Falcon Air - search them on the internet) to fly their older airplanes which are frequently broken down and unable to fly.
I have personally had flights canceled or delay over 10 hours due to "Mechanical Problems". This is a poorly run, unsafe airline with terrible customer service!

I FLEW THE AIRLINE AND FOUND IT VERY COMPETATIVE TO OTHER AIRLINES. I FLEW IT THREE TIMES AND EACH TIME THE FLIGHTS WERE DELAYED BUT I MUST SAY NOT DUE TO THE AIRLINE ITSELF. I HOPE D/A HAS A SUCCESSFUL VENTURE. IF THE PLANES WERE UNSAFE THE PILOTS WOULD NOT PUT THEMSELVES AT RISK. I AM A PILOT AND THOUGHT IT WAS AN ENJOYABLE FLIGHT.
