Save/ShareEvery week, Priceline's savvy blogger Brian Ek blogs about which destinations have gotten cheapest in the past week. For the week of January 4, the hotspots of Los Angeles and Florida show the biggest fare sales.
Roundtrips to Los Angeles have dropped between 26 and 34 percent, compared with last week's prices. Roundtrips to Florida's cities have plummeted by roughly the same.
For example, Washington, D.C., to L.A. round-trip airfares are averaging $270 this week, a drop of 34 percent, according to Priceline's Airfare Index.
The biggest price drop on a route? Roundtrips from Washington, DC to Fort Lauderdale are $214 on average, down 30 percent from a year ago.
We asked Brian what the comparison airfares were a year ago. Turns out prices are a little higher now than they were a year ago, but are still pretty reasonable. Baltimore to Ft. Lauderdale, for instance, averaged only $195 last year, but are hovering at $225 this year.
So airfares are going slowly but steadily up, with the exceptions of a handful of destinations, including. Boston, Minneapolis, Santo Domingo, and Sydney.
So if you're interested in catching some 70-degree Fahrenheit warmth in Hollywood, California, or Hollywood, Florida, book your tickets now.
