Starting today, Megabus is offering 100,000 free seats on 28 bus routes for travel between January 6 and March 20, 2010.
Here's the breakdown: 40,000 of those seats are for travel to New York City, the rest reserved for other routes in the Northeast and Midwest. Use promo code GETAWAY to get a ticket.
As always, this offer is subject to availability, and a 50-cent booking fee applies. If your dates are flexible, you're more likely to get a free seat; there are only a certain number available on each route and each travel day.
The free seats are a joint venture with NYC & Company, the Big Apple's official marketing and tourism organization. Check out their website for a listing of winter events and promotions. For instance, Restaurant Week starts on January 25.
Megabus operates double-decker buses with free WiFi, power outlets, and reclining seats. Budget Travel gave Megabus an Extra Mile Award in 2008.

Thanks for letting us know about the site! A Megabus representative just told me that they know about the problem. You should just try refreshing the web page, or go back to it in a few minutes. I just tried it, and it worked.

I had trouble booking yesterday, even when I was able to get to select my times. However this morning everything worked ok.

Thanks for letting us know, Kathie. Looks like of the 13 people on board (12 passengers and the driver), the most serious injury was a broken shoulder.

You couldn't pay me to take Megaturd again. They put us with a driver who didn't even know how to get from Chestnut St. to 30th St Station in Philly, my girlfriend who is from Philly had to go to the front and direct the driver. To make matters worse, this was after they were 2 hours late and allowed the bus to be held for an additional 15 minutes by people with later bus tickets trying to get on ours. Terrible customer service as they never even got back to me when I called to complain. No wonder they can't even give tickets away correctly...
