Tip: Bring a power cord to share
Posted by: Sean O'Neill, Wednesday, Oct 14, 2009, 12:43 PM

Sheila Scarborough is a travel blogger extraordinare. She's a guiding light at The Family Travel Logue ("your one-stop guide to family travel") and at the blog of Perceptive Travel magazine. We checked in with her for a savvy tip on how she stays "wired" on the road. She says…

"Electric outlets are often scarce. At airports, hotel rooms, and elsewhere, I often struggle to find a conveniently-located electrical outlet. That's why I tuck a power strip into my laptop bag, and share it with others when needed. Any strip will do, but one with a surge protector is recommended (from $7 at Amazon).

Fabulous idea...just wondering if it will max out capacity and hurt a computer or whatever else is plugged into it...or does the powerstrip make sure that doesn't happen?

Hi Lisa,

Not sure I understand your question; do you mean max out the capacity of the wall outlet? There's a circuit breaker within the power strip that should prevent that, and also prevent harm to items that are plugged into the power strip.

Disclaimer: I'm not an electrician, nor do I play one on TV. :)
