Let's look at the glass half full. With the holiday travel season quickly sneaking up, you may be dreading long waits and delays at airports. But for the single, long airport waits are opportunities for romantic encounters.
If history is any guide, Chicago O'Hare will offer plenty of opportunities for singles to meet up and bond over shared trouble. Last winter, O'Hare led the nation's airports in flight delays, with one out of every two flights delayed on average. Midway came in second-place, with one out of every three flights delayed. (Way to go, Chicago!)
Romance is in the air when flights get grounded. Consider the results of a survey of 860 travelers last fall by StrategyOne.
"Nearly one in ten adults has personally gone out or knows someone who has gone out with someone they met at the airport or during a flight. The survey also showed people are taking advantage of their flight time: one-third of adults would rather sit next to someone they find attractive or interesting than have an entire row to themselves."
But you need to also judge an airport by its number of inviting menus for strangers to meet. Bars, lounges, inviting gate areas. What airport has the most romantic possibilities, here or abroad? And if you've had romantic success, please share your story…

I thought I was the only one trying to meet women in airports while I was travelling. The truly vigilant road warrior-dude is on the lookout for women wherever he goes, but airports can be great. I see a lot of upscale, intelligent singles in the airports, and chances are obviously high that they like to travel. Things can get problematic if you live in Dallas and she's travelling back home to Nova Scotia. I have dated women I met at MCO, MDW, and my home port of OMA. The best leg of the flight to meet people is the final leg on the return home flight. Your prospect is probably not running to catch a connection, and you can see who meets them outside security.

If this article had come out a couple of years ago, It could have saved Senator Larry Craig a lot of embarrassment.

Come on now. I can tell you from experience that most of the lounge area Lotharios are married men looking for excitement on the road.
Let's have some more relevant information, please.

I dated someone I met in the Denver airport for a year and a half. He lived in South Dakota. I lived in Tennessee. We just happened to be on the same shuttle from our airport and the same flight! I would have never thought I'd meet a guy (a great guy in fact) at the airport, but apparantly I'm not the only one!

Not looking for 'love' - just love interesting people! Just a people person - but still like
the row to myself! At age 60, like to put my feet up and stretch! Doesn't happen much anymore! Flights too crowded, hard to get to LA from Philly non-stop!
US Air only offers it now - even SW stopped and United only has 1 flight a day!

Agreed....there are many interesting people to be met in the most unusual places...but I think this headline intimated "hooking up" more than making interesting acquaintances.
BTW Kay, my sympathies on your travel dilemmas....US Air is my last choice to go anywhere.

One of my best friends is now married to a great guy she met at IAH. She was flying to BOS to meet me to celebrate our birthdays in the middle of a New England snowstorm.
