Save/ShareToday, about 200 Hudson News stores at airports in the U.S. and Canada begin selling no-return DVD rentals for $6 each.
The DVDs, made by Flexplay, can be viewed an unlimited number of times within two days. You decide when to start the rental period. Once you open the sealed package, you get 48 hours until the oxygen-sensitive disc expires.
After the two-days pass, you can throw the disc away. If you want to be more eco-conscious, each Hudson News store display will have a built-in recycling receptacle. Prepaid mailing labels, which are available at flexplay.com, also will let you send the used DVD directly to the company’s recycling center.
Each Hudson News location will be stocked with a rotating selection of 20 to 25 new and recent titles. If you’re the type to plan ahead, you can also order the DVDs online and have the discs mailed to you for a dollar less (flexplay.com, $4.99, includes shipping.)
As an aside: Disney has experimented with a service like this. We're curious if Hudson News will be more successful.
Given that Netflix rentals have no set return date and that you can download movies from iTunes, would you buy Flexplay DVDs?

Flexplay rocks for my kids ! They give me flexibility at a great price and the traveling in the car and airport is so much easier. How many times we can not locate the movie and pay extra fees ! We will be fee free and return free. What a relief coming from a mom of 4 boys !

When I travel, I don't have any time to plan my plane entertainment and the plane movies are less-than-desirable--so on my trip last week I grabbed a Flexplay. I dropped it off at the recycling bin in the airport--great experience.

With only 2 "G" rated titles on their website, I'd hate to count on them for my child's entertainment. I'll keep an eye on them, but probably not do much until their inventory increases.
