"Birthdays are the one occasion that we all share every year. We thought a free birthday ticket would be the icing on the cake," said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney parks and Resorts at a press conference today.
The new policy follows up on 2008's popular "Year of a Million Dreams" promotion. Disney wants to focus on guests and the special occasions they're celebrating on their trips. ("Celebration vacation" is their term for these trips.)
Guests will need to provide a valid ID showing their date of birth. For more details, visit disneyparks.com.

What a great marketing idea!!!

Genius marketing. Supposing the average group brings 4 and stays 3 days, overall this would be on the order of about an 8% discount, but all of us love the idea of free and birthday presents. Probably wouldn't work anywhere else (people don't hit other parks for 3-4 days at a time), but will be a real boom for Disney! Impressive!!!

I think 2009 is our year then since I do have twins and they were born on my birthday. I also have two more children so this will be great. They've been asking to go back and sounds like next year is the time to do so. Thanks Disney!

I tried to register my birthday online and got a message that my birthdate was invalid. It's 9/23/32. Wonder why.
Posted By R. M. Codd on September 23, 2008, 9:54 AM
Try using 09/23/1932.
Posted By Mike on September 23, 2008, 12:40 PM
R.M., I just tried out the registration process myself. (I couldn't complete it all the way through because Disney is asking for travel dates, and I'm not actually going on my birthday next year.) But when I first tried to go to the site, the page was missing. So, my initial guess is that the Disney site may have been malfunctioning when you tried to register, which led them to pull it down. I just got onto the site with no problem, so I think it's possible they might have fixed whatever problem they had and relaunched. I suggest going back and trying again.

Dear Disney,
If I planned to use the birthday free admission for me on January 25,2009, how would I go about the process? Thank you, Louis.
Posted By Louis A. Fuoco III on October 9, 2008, 8:09 PM
Sounds like a better deal than it really is.
I thought you'd have at least a few days of grace period around your birthday in which to use the free ticket. You have to come ON your birthday. As anyone who has school age children knows, you can't just pull your child out and go jet setting off to Disney during the school year.
My B-day is in the middle of Nov., I thought we would go on Thanksgiving break, but that won't happen now!

Who are these naysayers? They are running a business people, can you really expect them to work around each individual schedule?! Get real, and teach your kids not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

this is better now i can enjoy a day on my birthday for free i love this i wished my bday would be every day that way i can go everyday!!!!!!
Posted By lucia on November 13, 2008, 11:31 AM
Well, I guess you can't make everyone happy even if they are getting something for FREE! Some people would find fault no matter what you do. I think this is a great thing. I have 4 people in my family and I used the date of birth that fell on the day that best suited us. You do what you have to do.

We just got back from Disney last week for my daughters birthday and it was a blast! They also give you a button to wear saying it is your birthday so everyone seeing the button is telling you Happy Birthday!

What a wonderful idea! I hope that this applies to adults as well.
Posted By Mary Engel on February 20, 2009, 8:51 AM
Good news then, Mary. This does apply to adults as well. So we "children" of all ages can take part in the magic!

Thank you, Mickey, I'll be going to Orlando, Fla Disneyland in September on my Birthday, I'll be 55, and I plan to take my nephew who is 7 and my mom who just turned 76.
Posted By lamberto on February 26, 2009, 4:41 PM
I'm going! I think this is great for anybody who can take advantage of it. It's very unusual for Disney to give away admission tickets. They don't even offer organizational discounts for groups like AAA and AARP. As for "grace periods," I've never seen any business that offers birthday freebies give them on any day except your actual birthday.

Even though we live near Orlando we don't often visit the parks because of the expense & crowds. However, for my 50th bday, my hubby and I went to Animal Kingdom. It was great fun - I got in free and wore the button they gave me all day, which resulted in many many greetings. Twice, visitors gave us tickets to get in the express line. My husband also received 10% discount on his ticket as a FL resident. I have a much more positive view of Disney after our visit! It was a very generous gift and I did send them an email thank you.
