New cheap bus rides
Posted by: Erik Torkells, Tuesday, Mar 25, 2008, 1:14 PM

I'm not a huge fan of buses, myself, but you have to admire Megabus. The low-fare bus line is expanding like crazy. Today's news: Beginning May 30, service is launching between New York and Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Buffalo, Atlantic City, and Toronto. There will be a handful of $1 fares, though they must be purchased very far in advance, and of course prices go up the nearer you get to the date of departure. After hearing one too many scary tales from the so-called Chinatown buses, I'd certainly be more willing to go with Megabus.

The tone of this post doesn't match the previous post from the 4th:
http://current.newsweek.com/budgettravel/2008/03/greyhounds_new_lowcost_buses_w.html

Its fairly disconcerting when the same site acts like new busses are exciting and then in the same month acts like you might not even want to ride a bus.

I understand that you have different authors, however shouldn't the general tone/outlook be similar?

Rather than alluding to the faults with some of the Chinatown bus companies, I'd rather see some commentary of peoples experiences with Mega Bus since it has been in existence for some time in other markets (some can be found in the comments on the Bolt Bus post).

Otherwise thanks for the alert about the $1 tickets!

I think I posted something like this recently, but can't find it, so here it is (again). I AM A BIG FAN OF MEGABUS. Only used it once, (Vegas to LA), but have current reservation. I let all my friends know, and one took it LA to Oakland and was quite happy (return trip by plane since bus schedule not good.) Book early, book often.

Hi guys,

I was going to use Greyhound's NeOn $1 fare to go from NYC to Toronoto in August, but I can't seem to get it now.

Any ideas re a cheap way to get a round trip NYC-Toronto? We're going Mon-Thurs, possiby Aug. 18-21.

All comments welcome!!

Hi Barb,
Thanks for your comment on the blog. Sorry to hear about your daughter’s situation. Unfortunately, I don’t know of a cheaper bus travel option from Florida to Ohio.
Good luck,
