I agree it "hurts" to pay a single supplement. To save money, I've shared rooms with strangers who were on my group trips. The hard fact is, hotels, cruises lines, etc, usually charge by the room, not by the number of people in it. That's what they base their corporate profit model on. If you were traveling completely on your own, you'd pay the full price of a hotel room. If you shared it with a companion, you'd pay half. If tour operators have to book a separate room for you, their costs go up. Fact of life. I don't see that I have a leg to stand on in asking hotels or tour operators to make less profit by charging me less. But I do think the travel industry has a lot to gain by taking the needs of solo travelers to heart.
