Gov't to limit flights to NYC
Posted by: Budget Travel, Wednesday, Dec 19, 2007, 1:57 PM
Under new rules that take effect in March, JFK will only be allowed 82 or 83 flights per hour at peak times, down significantly from the 90 to 100 that had been scheduled this past summer. Similar caps will go into effect at Newark, but the exact number has yet to be determined. LaGuardia already has limits on flights.—via this Associated Press story

As we noted before, we think this news means that fares will rise on flights to and from New York City.

Honestly, the only thing that really bothers me about flights is that from New York you can guaranty you will not be on time, and often its not just 20 minutes late.

This year (because I was also mindbogglingly late last year) I took a tally: 60% of my flights were delayed more than an hour. 2 flights were completely canceled. I was more than 6 hours late on 4 flights, none of which happened during a hurricane or snowstorm. Many though, ostensibly for weather, but really because airtraffic control, after a 30 minute weather event, had 4+ hour backups because too many flights are scheduled, and I wasn't going someplace considered important enough, and maybe I had a connection. And, I am not just incredibly unlucky: I just happen to live in NYC.

I personally cannot wait until they limit the amount of flights. For me, I will definitely pay more to assure that I will get where I need to go on time. It definitely beats paying for a night in a hotel because your flight was permanently delay due to 'weather'.

Great! I think counting users is a better way, and counting active users even better.
