Good news for smokers
Posted by: Erik Torkells, Friday, Jul 20, 2007, 9:36 AM

Or, I suppose, anybody who carries a lighter. The TSA removed its ban on bringing cigarette lighters on planes, as of August 4. The reasoning was that small batteries are just as dangerous, so why worry about lighters? (Matches have always been allowed....) The question is, will the screeners get and retain this news? One can only wonder how many lighters will get confiscated on August 4.

In the Budget Travel Blog "This Just In. . . " section you post an article telling us that the TSA will allow cigarette lighters on airplanes beginning in August, 2007. The article is dated 7/20/07. "This Just In. . . "??? Give me a break! What gives?

Dear Robert,
Thanks for writing in. Good point. In my rush to add a "related link" of content showing the blog's coverage of the smoking issue, I included items from the past six months.
We'll be more conscious of timeliness in the future.
Thanks,
